About the Role

The Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State seeks a Senior Sonar Engineer to join its Sonar Research and Development Division (SRDD). This role focuses on advancing anti-submarine warfare (ASW) signal processing and enabling sonar hardware. You will be responsible for developing and executing significant R&D projects, providing technical leadership, and spearheading major proposals of national and international importance.

What You'll Do

  • Perform a mix of high-level project management and engineering work related to SONAR signal processing and hardware.
  • Provide expert-level technical expertise in anti-submarine warfare (ASW).
  • Plan and direct research projects with substantial impact in ASW signal processing and enabling hardware.
  • Provide technical leadership across multiple simultaneous programs.
  • Propose and lead new SONAR signal processing and enabling hardware initiatives.
  • Research emerging trends in ASW technology areas.
  • Direct and/or contribute as a principal to major proposal preparations, presentations, plans, and executions for ASW SONAR systems.
  • Coordinate research and development activities across various SONAR processing and hardware programs.
  • Develop novel signal processing engineering concepts and approaches.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science.
  • 19+ years of relevant experience.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills with strong collaboration, execution, and delivery capabilities.
  • Strong background in Undersea Technology, at-sea testing, and Autonomous Systems.
  • Clear understanding of necessary technologies in the ASW discipline.
  • Demonstrated background in Undersea Signal Processing.
  • DAWIA Level III STM and SE certifications.
  • Active TS/SCI Clearance.
  • 20+ years of sonar and undersea warfare experience.
  • Ability to obtain a government security clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship.

  • Salary range: $141,700.00 - $219,600.00.
