Optiml is hiring a Software Engineer - Infrastructure (GCP & Platform)

Responsibilities

  • Define strategic priorities by identifying high-impact infrastructure challenges, scoping initiatives, and guiding execution.
  • Collaborate on developing and integrating features in Python and TypeScript that affect core systems such as role-based access control and job processing queues.
  • Manage and maintain Google Cloud Platform infrastructure, including Cloud Run, network configurations, identity and access management, TLS settings, and firewall policies.
  • Enhance continuous integration and delivery pipelines, deployment automation, and tools that support developer productivity.
  • Lead end-to-end release management, covering staging environments, testing, quality assurance, production rollout, rollback procedures, and stakeholder communication.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident response efforts, ensuring system availability and adherence to severity protocols.
  • Work closely with IT and security teams on vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and strengthening infrastructure defenses.
  • Improve system documentation, monitoring capabilities, and observability to increase operational transparency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Minimum of three years in infrastructure or platform engineering roles.
  • Proven expertise with a major cloud provider, especially Google Cloud Platform, covering compute, storage, networking, IAM, and container deployments.
  • Extensive background operating and optimizing containerized applications using Docker or comparable technologies.
  • Proficient in Python with experience contributing to production backend or data-centric codebases.
  • Production experience with databases such as MongoDB and Redis, including performance tuning, scalability, and reliability practices.
  • Experience managing distributed systems using metrics, message queues, or event-driven architectures.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines using tools like GitHub Actions or similar.
  • Exceptional written and spoken English communication skills.
  • Must hold Swiss or EU citizenship due to company size and sponsorship limitations.

  • Experience handling compute-heavy workloads or scientific simulations.
  • Interest in climate technology, sustainability, or real estate and built environment innovation.
