Shape and deliver impactful features as a Software Engineer II on a growing Rails-based platform that powers key aspects of self-storage management. You'll take ownership of functionality across billing, customer relationships, reporting, APIs, and internal tools—driving initiatives from initial discussions through to production deployment.
What You’ll Do
- Design, implement, and maintain features in a modern Rails 8 environment, ensuring they are scalable, well-tested, and production-ready.
- Collaborate with product teams to refine requirements and deliver solutions that meet real user needs.
- Contribute to ongoing application health with dedicated maintenance time—focused on performance, stability, and improving developer workflows.
- Write comprehensive automated tests using Minitest or RSpec to support frequent, confident deployments.
- Investigate and resolve production issues efficiently, ensuring system reliability as usage grows.
- Learn from and share knowledge with experienced engineers in a culture that values growth and technical excellence.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience developing and deploying production applications in Ruby on Rails.
- Solid understanding of the Rails stack, including ActiveRecord, background processing, and the full HTTP request lifecycle.
- Ability to navigate both backend and frontend layers, with familiarity in JavaScript and CSS as needed.
- Experience writing and maintaining automated test suites to ensure code quality.
- Strong debugging skills, particularly in live environments.
- Effective communication skills to discuss technical trade-offs and collaborate across disciplines.
- Self-direction on defined projects while thriving in a close-knit, fast-moving team setting.
Nice to Have
- Experience using AI-powered development tools to accelerate coding and problem-solving, while knowing when deep technical judgment is required.
Technology Environment
Our stack includes Rails 8, PostgreSQL, Redis, Sidekiq, Turbo 8, React, ViewComponents, Sass with BEM, Minitest, Capybara, Playwright, Stripe Connect and Billing, GitHub Actions, and Heroku. You’ll work in a fully remote setup within the UK or EU, with optional access to office space in Belfast.
