The Browser Company is hiring a Software Engineer, Chromium (Contractor, EU)

About the Role

We're looking for a contractor to help develop core features in our Chromium-based browser, focusing on performance, user experience, and modern web integration.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain features within a Chromium-based browser environment
  • Collaborate with engineers to implement performance improvements
  • Debug complex rendering and JavaScript execution issues
  • Optimize browser startup and page load times
  • Contribute to UI components that enhance user interaction
  • Work on memory and resource management systems
  • Integrate modern web standards into the browsing experience
  • Support cross-platform functionality across operating systems
  • Write clean, testable, and well-documented code
  • Participate in code reviews and technical discussions
  • Investigate and resolve user-reported issues
  • Help define technical direction for browser features
  • Ensure compatibility with evolving web APIs
  • Improve accessibility and internationalization support
  • Monitor and reduce crash rates
  • Implement security best practices in browser components
  • Collaborate on feature rollout and A/B testing
  • Stay current with Chromium project developments
  • Contribute patches and improvements upstream when possible
  • Work closely with product and design teams

Nice to Have

  • Contributions to open-source browser projects
  • Experience with V8 or other JavaScript engines
  • Knowledge of GPU acceleration in rendering
  • Familiarity with WebAssembly or WebGPU
  • Prior work on browser extensions or dev tools
  • Understanding of privacy-preserving technologies
  • Experience with automated testing in browser contexts
  • Background in human-computer interaction
  • Published research or talks in systems or web domains
  • Advanced degree in computer science or related field
