As a Commercial Underwriter, you'll play a key role in managing new business submissions, policy renewals, and mid-term adjustments, ensuring accurate risk assessment and appropriate coverage terms.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and process new business applications, renewals, endorsements, and policy changes with precision
- Support retention initiatives by evaluating portfolio performance and identifying opportunities to reduce cancellations
- Analyse commercial risks to determine suitable coverage and pricing structures
- Communicate clearly and professionally with brokers, insurers, and internal teams
- Maintain accurate digital records to support compliance and audit readiness
- Source and evaluate quotations, recommend options, and implement premium adjustments
- Ensure all underwriting activities meet regulatory and quality standards
- Assist with policy administration tasks including invoicing, documentation, and refunds
Qualifications and Requirements
Candidates must have completed secondary education and hold FAIS compliance. A minimum of two years’ experience in short-term commercial underwriting is essential, with direct client engagement experience in a professional setting. Strong written and spoken English skills are required, along with a professional demeanor.
You must be available to work during UK or Australian business hours and operate from a dedicated home office equipped with reliable fibre internet (minimum 50/50 Mbps, 100/100 preferred). Only South African citizens currently residing in South Africa are eligible.
A relevant diploma or degree is considered an advantage but not mandatory.
