Responsibilities
- Handles manual and administrative tasks involved in shipping and receiving materials, equipment, and finished goods via freight or less-than-truckload carriers.
- Verifies shipments against documentation, packages items per requirements, prepares bills of lading, records weights and shipping costs, and labels packages with proper instructions.
- Conducts receiving duties such as unloading delivery vehicles, verifying contents against packing lists and bills of lading, confirming item identification and quantities, and recording received goods.
- Executes routine but diverse tasks to support manufacturing operations following established procedures.
- Manages required records, files, and shipping or receiving documentation.
- Uses hand tools and operates material handling equipment like forklifts, pallet jacks, skids, and hand trucks to move and stage materials for loading.
- May assist in planning outbound loads to meet customer delivery timelines and cost targets.
- Applies knowledge of departmental policies to address customer or operational issues as they arise.
- Communicates clearly with customers, suppliers, customer service teams, and production staff.
- Develops strong working relationships across departments to coordinate resources and ensure proper handling, storage, and shipment of products at minimal cost.
- Collaborates with management to understand and support action plans that meet department goals and improve process efficiency.
- Supports management in training, safety initiatives, and special projects as needed.
- Ensures adherence to all safety regulations, quality standards, and internal policies.
- Reports any issues, potential hazards, or unsafe conditions to supervisors promptly.
- Examines products or shipments to confirm they meet required specifications.
- Attends production meetings or consults with other departments when necessary to align shipping and receiving activities.
- May supervise entry-level staff or conduct audits of work performed to ensure accuracy.
- Keeps the work area clean, organized, and secure, especially at shipping and receiving dock access points.
- Promotes and supports the organization’s quality policy and objectives through daily activities.
- May operate a delivery van locally to transport materials or products, ensuring vehicle safety and compliance with all applicable regulations.
