Responsibilities
- Handles physical and administrative tasks involved in shipping and receiving materials, supplies, equipment, and finished products via freight or less-than-truckload carriers
- Verifies shipments against documentation, packs items per guidelines, prepares shipping paperwork, logs weights and fees, and labels packages with required details
- Executes receiving duties including unloading freight, verifying quantities and items against documents like bills of lading and packing slips, and recording received goods
- Carries out diverse routine tasks to support manufacturing functions following established protocols
- Keeps accurate records and maintains required documentation and filing systems
- Uses hand tools and operates material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks to move and load materials
- May assist in planning outbound loads to meet delivery timelines and cost targets
- Applies knowledge of internal procedures to address operational and customer issues as they arise
- Communicates clearly with customers, vendors, customer service teams, and production staff
- Develops collaborative relationships across departments to ensure proper handling, storage, and shipment of products at optimal cost
- Partners with management to understand and support execution of action plans and process improvements
- Supports leadership with training, safety initiatives, and special projects within the department
- Follows all safety, quality, and company procedural requirements
- Reports issues, risks, or unsafe conditions to supervisors promptly
- Examines products or shipments to confirm they meet specified standards
- Attends production meetings or meets with other departments when needed to coordinate logistics activities
- May supervise entry-level staff or review their work for correctness and completeness
- Keeps the work environment clean, organized, and secure, especially at dock access points
- Supports adherence to the organization's quality principles and goals
- May operate a delivery van locally to transport goods, ensuring vehicle safety and regulatory compliance
