Responsibilities
- Handles physical and administrative tasks involved in shipping and receiving goods transported by freight or less-than-truckload carriers
- Verifies shipments against documentation, packages items per guidelines, prepares shipping paperwork, logs weights and costs, and labels packages with instructions
- Unloads delivery vehicles, confirms receipt by comparing items to bills of lading and packing lists, verifies identification and quantities, and records incoming inventory
- Executes diverse routine tasks to support production teams following established protocols
- Keeps essential records and documentation organized and up to date
- Uses hand tools and operates material handling machinery such as forklifts, pallet jacks, skids, and hand trucks to move and load materials
- May assist in planning outbound loads to meet delivery timelines and cost targets
- Applies knowledge of internal policies to address customer or operational issues as they arise
- Communicates clearly with clients, vendors, customer service, and production staff
- Develops strong interdepartmental relationships to coordinate resources and ensure proper handling, storage, and distribution of goods at minimal cost
- Collaborates with supervisors to understand and support action plans that meet departmental goals and enhance efficiency
- Supports management in daily operations, training initiatives, safety compliance, and special assignments
- Follows all safety, quality, and procedural standards consistently
- Reports actual or potential issues, including safety hazards, to leadership promptly
- Examines products or shipments to confirm they meet required specifications
- Attends production meetings or consults with other departments when needed to align shipping and receiving schedules
- May supervise entry-level staff or review their work for accuracy and completeness
- Keeps the work environment neat, orderly, and secure, especially at loading and unloading points
- Supports adherence to defined quality policies and objectives
- May operate a delivery van locally to transport goods, maintaining vehicle safety and regulatory compliance
- Provides training and ongoing support to new and current team members
