AECOM is hiring a Senior Water Scientist and Hydrologist

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing competitive and commercially sound proposals for water science services, primarily targeting water utilities and public agencies like the Environment Agency.
  • Lead coordination of cross-functional teams comprising water scientists, hydrogeologists, hydromorphologists, aquatic ecologists, and flood risk experts, ensuring appropriate staffing, budgeting, and project controls.
  • Determine requirements, plan, and execute advanced monitoring and field activities such as water quality assessments, streamflow measurement, hydromorphological evaluations, and protected water source investigations.
  • Deliver high-standard water science and hydrology consultancy services to internal and external stakeholders, including participation in technical review and quality assurance processes.
  • Apply diverse technical tools, software, and modeling systems to achieve project outcomes, and conduct empirical data analysis—for example, evaluating flow records and spot measurements to interpret low-flow and average flow conditions.
  • Contribute to the creation of technically sound and practical solutions for challenging water resource and hydrological problems.
  • Understand and interpret the downstream effects of hydrological shifts on water quality, river form, and aquatic ecosystems, such as variations in channel wetting and flow velocity impacting fish migration.
  • Provide technical and operational support to team members and maintain strong communication with internal departments and client representatives.
  • Engage directly with clients and contribute to commercial project management, including scope development and client relationship management.
  • Ensure all activities comply with health, safety, and environmental standards as a foundational requirement.
