AECOM is hiring a Senior Water Main Design Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and approval of water main and lead service line replacement designs, including finalizing and signing design drawings.
  • Assist with specialized initiatives such as lead service line replacement projects, complex urban infrastructure designs, and the creation of bidding and contract documentation.
  • Support the design of large-diameter water mains exceeding 16 inches, including detailed planning, project ranking, and advisory input for the Department of Water Management.
  • Contribute to cost estimation processes and help draft long-term agreement contracts for water main and lead service line replacement construction.
  • Collaborate with construction personnel to resolve design conflicts and ensure alignment between plans and field conditions.
  • Assist the Department of Water Management in identifying and prioritizing capital improvement projects and provide oversight during implementation.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews of engineering deliverables, including design plans, cost estimates, and construction-related submittals or requests for information.
  • Offer technical guidance on water main projects to internal teams and external stakeholders, including operations and construction management units.
  • Participate in and lead coordination meetings with the Department of Water Management and its construction partners, including direct client engagement.
  • Manage the design approval process involving multiple agencies such as the Department of Water Management, OUC, IDOT, and other relevant authorities.
  • Guide and train junior to mid-career engineers working on water main design tasks to strengthen team capabilities.
