Applied Intuition is hiring a Senior Software Engineer - Operating Systems

About the Role

Shape the future of vehicle operating systems by joining a pioneering team building a full-stack OS from the ground up. As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll define architectural direction and implement critical low-level components that power next-generation mobility solutions.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the design and evolution of the operating system's core architecture and long-term technical roadmap
  • Develop and optimize foundational code in performance-sensitive domains including memory management, interprocess communication, and concurrency models
  • Collaborate with hardware partners and OEMs to define board support packages, hardware abstraction layers, and driver integration strategies
  • Engage actively with open-source communities, contributing to existing projects and submitting technical proposals
  • Establish security models, sandboxing frameworks, and runtime environments that meet stringent safety and reliability standards
  • Mentor engineers and influence technical direction across system-level development efforts

What We're Looking For

  • 6+ years of experience in systems programming or low-level software development
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
  • Strong command of C and C++ with a focus on efficiency and correctness in resource-constrained environments
  • Hands-on experience with Unix/Linux kernel development or embedded systems
  • Proven ability to lead complex software initiatives from concept to production
  • Deep understanding of threading, concurrency, performance profiling, and system-level debugging
  • Experience with source control and distributed development workflows
  • Active participation in open-source projects, especially at the OS or kernel level

Preferred Background

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science or related discipline
  • Direct experience integrating with hardware platforms, including ARM processors or cellular modems
  • Knowledge of security architectures and sandboxing techniques
  • Track record of thriving in fast-moving, cross-functional environments
  • Public contributions to open-source operating systems or kernel subsystems

Technology Environment

You'll work extensively with C/C++, Linux kernel internals, embedded systems, BSPs and HALs, device drivers, interprocess communication, memory and power management, and networking stacks. Open-source tools and distributed collaboration platforms are central to our workflow.

Work Environment

This is an onsite role with primary locations in Sunnyvale, Washington D.C., San Diego, Ft. Walton Beach, Ann Arbor, London, Stuttgart, Munich, Stockholm, Bangalore, Seoul, and Tokyo. Employees are expected to work from the office five days per week, with limited flexibility for remote start times or early departures when personal commitments require it. Responsible schedule management is expected.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Life and disability coverage
  • 401k retirement plan with employer matching
  • Learning and wellness stipends
  • Paid time off
  • Equity compensation in the form of options and/or restricted stock units

Our Culture

We value technical excellence, open collaboration, and responsible innovation in physical AI systems. We foster mentorship, promote inclusive practices, and support engineers who lead through code and example.
