The Senior Reliability Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the long-term performance, safety, and maintainability of complex defense and aerospace systems. This position leads reliability engineering initiatives from concept through production, applying rigorous analytical methods to predict, assess, and improve system reliability. The engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to integrate reliability best practices into design and manufacturing processes, ensuring compliance with military standards such as MIL-HDBK-217 and MIL-HDBK-1629. The role also involves leading formal analyses, supporting customer engagements, and contributing to risk mitigation strategies throughout the product lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Lead or perform reliability engineering tasks throughout program lifecycle phases including proposal, design, and production.
- Plan and execute technical trade studies to evaluate engineering designs for reliability performance.
- Develop reliability, maintainability, and testability (RM&T) analyses in accordance with industry standards.
- Calculate Mean Time Between Failures using MIL-HDBK-217 methodologies.
- Conduct Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analyses (FMECA) per MIL-HDBK-1629 guidelines.
- Perform root cause and corrective action (RCCA) investigations as part of a closed-loop FRACA process.
- Produce formal RM&T reports for customer delivery and program documentation.
- Execute reliability growth testing to validate system improvements over time.
- Communicate technical findings clearly to program teams, management, and customers during reviews and meetings.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM field and at least 5 years of relevant engineering experience.
- U.S. citizenship is mandatory to meet security requirements.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued Secret security clearance.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with Department of Defense customers such as the Army, Air Force, or Navy.
- Cross-functional experience in maintainability, testability, system safety, logistics, or training.
- Proven ability to collaborate across engineering disciplines and organizational levels.
- Experience presenting technical data to internal stakeholders or external clients.
- Background in product testing, troubleshooting, and failure analysis in production or field settings.
- Proficiency with reliability analysis software such as Reliasoft Tool Suite or Windchill.
- Understanding of hardware-software interface integration and behavior.
- Involvement in software or firmware development cycles.
- Experience supporting Earned Value Management systems for cost and schedule tracking.
- Skill in developing RM&T cost estimates and technical inputs for proposal efforts.
