AIM is hiring a Senior Perception Engineer

About the Role

You’re an engineer who thrives on solving complex perception challenges where machine learning interacts with the physical world. You have production experience building machine learning systems that run on real hardware, understand the constraints of sensor noise and limited compute, and take ownership of end-to-end performance. You debug rigorously, iterate using field data, and ensure perception enables safe, reliable autonomy in high-stakes environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement perception algorithms for scene interpretation, obstacle identification, terrain analysis, and machine awareness.
  • Enhance the perception system with advanced sensor fusion, environmental modeling, and machine-focused processing pipelines.
  • Create algorithms that perform consistently in challenging, dynamic earthmoving conditions.
  • Develop and deploy machine learning models for tasks such as object detection, segmentation, depth prediction, and terrain analysis.
  • Optimize deep learning models for efficient real-time execution on embedded computing platforms.
  • Construct scalable data workflows to support training, evaluation, and continuous model improvement.
  • Work closely with robotics, controls, systems, and software teams to integrate perception outputs into planning and control logic.
  • Ensure seamless interaction between perception, localization, SLAM, mapping, and safety-critical subsystems.
  • Design perception interfaces that are resilient, testable, and provide clear observability.
  • Improve existing perception architecture and sensor fusion methodologies.
  • Conduct research and implement cutting-edge machine learning techniques.
  • Engage directly with field-deployed machines and support hands-on integration and troubleshooting.
  • Apply practical expertise in state-of-the-art localization and SLAM techniques.

About AIM Intelligent Machines

Curious if you want to terraform earth? Everything humanity depends on is mined, dug, or grown. At AIM, we are building the autonomous linchpin of civilization. We transform heavy machinery—bulldozers, loaders, excavators—into AI-powered fleets that operate continuously, safely, and at peak performance in the world’s harshest environments. AIM runs production mines, large scale infrastructure builds, and defense operations as a TRL9 hardened system, not a science experiment. We have been automating this massive space with embodied AI and emerged as the market choice for ground engagement autonomy. Built by engineers from mining, construction, Waymo, SpaceX, Google and Tesla, AIM enables scalable earthmoving, turbocharging the global economy’s physical foundation. AIM is backed by some of the most sophisticated capital in the world, including General Catalyst, Khosla Ventures, Elad Gil, Human Capital, Ironspring Ventures, Mantis, DCVC. About company
AIM

AIM automates the first mile of earthmoving by retrofitting existing heavy machinery with a hardened physical AI platform, enabling autonomous, reliable, and safe operations in the most extreme environments. The company addresses global bottlenecks in infrastructure and resource production caused by labor shortages, operational inefficiencies, and safety risks.

AIM's technology enables commercial-scale autonomous earthmoving across industries such as mining, construction, and defense. It delivers measurable improvements in safety, productivity, and cost efficiency, with proven deployments showing up to 500% increases in fleet production and millions in annual OpEx savings.

The platform is designed for real-world impact, operating without reliance on prior infrastructure or GPS, and functions in constantly changing terrains. AIM’s system is TRL9-certified, meaning it is a fully mature, production-ready technology currently deployed in active mine sites, construction zones, and military operations worldwide.
