About the Role
This role involves managing end-to-end payroll functions for Japan, including processing, compliance, and coordination with internal teams and external partners to ensure accurate and timely delivery.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the full-cycle payroll processing for employees in Japan
- Ensure all payroll activities comply with local labor laws and tax regulations
- Collaborate with HR and finance teams to resolve payroll discrepancies
- Maintain accurate employee payroll records and update as needed
- Process salary payments, bonuses, and deductions accurately and on time
- Manage year-end tax reporting and filings specific to Japan
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll and compensation
- Coordinate with third-party vendors and government agencies when necessary
- Audit payroll data for consistency and correctness
- Support payroll system implementations and upgrades
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency
- Ensure timely submission of statutory reports and contributions
- Stay current on changes in Japanese payroll legislation
- Assist with internal and external audits related to payroll
- Train team members on payroll policies and procedures
- Monitor payroll workflows to meet strict deadlines
- Reconcile payroll with general ledger entries
- Handle off-cycle payments and adjustments as required
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive payroll information
- Support onboarding and offboarding payroll activities
- Work across time zones to meet service expectations
- Use payroll software to generate reports and track metrics
- Escalate complex payroll issues following defined protocols
- Ensure data integrity across multiple payroll platforms
- Contribute to documentation of payroll policies and controls
