Join a specialized engineering team focused on mission-critical facilities as a Senior Mechanical Engineer. You'll lead the design and optimization of HVAC and heat rejection systems tailored to the unique demands of data centers, ensuring reliability, energy efficiency, and long-term scalability.
Key Responsibilities
- Design custom HVAC and heat rejection solutions for data centers, accounting for cooling type, load requirements, redundancy, maintainability, airflow management, and future expansion.
- Select and specify appropriate cooling technologies such as fan wall units, CRAHs, chilled water systems, DX units, CRACs, in-row cooling, and containment strategies based on project needs.
- Perform internal and external computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to analyze airflow, detect thermal hotspots, and refine system performance under varying conditions.
- Conduct heat load calculations and capacity planning to support current operations and anticipated growth, including phased development scenarios.
- Develop models, interpret results, and recommend design improvements to enhance system efficiency and resilience.
- Coordinate design changes with cross-disciplinary teams to ensure integrated and conflict-free project delivery.
- Incorporate fault-tolerant and redundant system designs to maintain continuous operation during maintenance or equipment failure.
- Design backup cooling systems, automatic failover mechanisms, and monitoring protocols to support uninterrupted operations.
- Apply energy-efficient strategies such as economizers, variable speed drives, and energy recovery systems to reduce environmental impact and operating costs.
- Ensure indoor air quality through effective filtration, humidity control, and contaminant mitigation to protect sensitive equipment.
- Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers to align HVAC systems with power infrastructure, UPS, emergency generators, and fire suppression systems.
Qualifications
Candidates should have demonstrated experience in the data center or mission-critical industry, with a solid understanding of high-availability environments, rapid deployment cycles, and the technical demands of large-scale computing facilities. Proficiency in HVAC design, heat rejection methods, and CFD analysis is essential.
