Toyota Research Institute is hiring a Senior Machine Learning Researcher, Large Behavior Models & Diffusion Policy

Responsibilities

  • Advance cutting-edge research in generative AI, particularly diffusion policy, to improve end-to-end perception, planning, and prediction in autonomous driving, with an emphasis on vision-based sensing.
  • Design and develop scalable, end-to-end models that transform raw sensor inputs into vehicle trajectory outputs, tackling rare and complex driving situations where training data is limited.
  • Build, test, and refine deep learning architectures using imitation learning and extensive datasets to ensure reliable performance across varied driving environments.
  • Evaluate models in both simulated sensor environments and real-world conditions using closed-loop testing to assess robustness, consistency, and scalability.
  • Investigate multi-modal and language-guided models to expand the scope of end-to-end driving policies, leveraging external datasets and transfer learning for improved generalization.
  • Partner with research and engineering teams across the organization and global affiliates to speed up deployment and validation of models in controlled test tracks and public road settings.
  • Lead the publication of findings in top-tier, peer-reviewed research forums.

Compensation

Annual salary range of $200,000 to $287,500 for positions based in California, with final offers influenced by experience, skills, domain expertise, and location.
