Oura is hiring a Senior Firmware Engineer

About the Role

The role involves developing and maintaining firmware for wearable technology, focusing on power efficiency, real-time performance, and seamless integration with hardware components and higher-level software systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement embedded firmware for microcontrollers in wearable devices
  • Optimize code for minimal power consumption and maximum responsiveness
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers to ensure firmware aligns with circuit design
  • Debug and resolve low-level software issues across development stages
  • Develop and maintain device drivers for sensors and communication peripherals
  • Integrate firmware with mobile and cloud platforms for data synchronization
  • Ensure compliance with security and privacy standards in data handling
  • Conduct unit testing and system-level validation of firmware components
  • Support production and field firmware updates and troubleshooting
  • Contribute to technical documentation and design specifications
  • Work within agile development cycles to meet product milestones
  • Evaluate and integrate third-party libraries and firmware modules
  • Monitor and improve firmware reliability under real-world conditions
  • Participate in code reviews to maintain software quality and consistency
  • Assist in defining firmware architecture for future product generations

Nice to Have

  • Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Experience with RTOS and bare-metal firmware development
  • Knowledge of secure boot and cryptographic implementations
  • Track record of shipping consumer electronics products
  • Experience with sensor fusion algorithms and data filtering
  • Familiarity with FDA or CE certification processes for wearables
  • Contributions to open-source embedded projects
  • Understanding of manufacturing test and firmware validation processes
