Great Minds is hiring a Senior Engineering Manager

About the Role

As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will guide both technical direction and team development for a group of eight or more software engineers. Your role is central to ensuring the delivery of robust, scalable digital products that empower educators and improve student learning experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Shape technical strategy by collaborating with product and engineering leaders to evaluate and refine system architecture and development practices.
  • Lead regular code and documentation reviews, ensuring alignment with best practices and long-term maintainability.
  • Support engineer growth through consistent one-on-ones, performance assessments, and targeted feedback.
  • Assign meaningful work that balances team capacity, skill development, and platform knowledge sharing.
  • Translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences, including product teams, business stakeholders, and fellow engineers.
  • Design and implement cloud-native applications using modern frameworks and services, with a focus on reliability and scalability.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of seven years of hands-on software development experience.
  • At least three years in an engineering management role leading technical teams.
  • Proven ability to design and operate systems in AWS or similar cloud environments.
  • Experience building prototypes or reference architectures using NodeJS, TypeScript, React, Python, or equivalent tools.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical decisions clearly across disciplines.
  • Demonstrated success mentoring engineers and managing workloads to support both delivery and professional growth.
  • A bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a systematic approach to solving complex challenges are essential.

Work & Compensation

This is a fully remote position with no location restrictions. The salary range is $147,000 to $164,000. Additional benefits and incentives are provided.
