About the Role
Leads the development and execution of high-impact weather forecasting initiatives, managing scientific staff and collaborating across departments to enhance predictive accuracy and public impact.
Responsibilities
- Direct the strategic vision for weather forecasting programs
- Oversee daily operations of forecasting teams and systems
- Develop and maintain advanced meteorological models
- Ensure forecast accuracy and timely dissemination
- Manage a team of scientists, forecasters, and technical staff
- Collaborate with research partners on atmospheric studies
- Represent the unit at national and international forums
- Secure external funding through grant proposals
- Publish findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals
- Integrate new observational data into forecasting workflows
- Lead response efforts during extreme weather events
- Mentor junior staff and postdoctoral researchers
- Evaluate emerging technologies for operational use
- Ensure compliance with safety and data standards
- Coordinate with government and academic partners
- Design training programs for forecast team development
- Monitor performance metrics and reporting
- Support interdisciplinary climate and weather projects
- Maintain forecasting infrastructure and software
