Responsibilities
- Lead strategic direction and governance of environmental, health, and safety performance across urban transportation infrastructure projects, including rail and transit systems.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive EHS management system that meets corporate, client, regulatory, and industry standards.
- Serve as the primary EHS advisor to executive leadership, joint venture partners, clients, regulators, and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with operations leaders to ensure sufficient EHS staffing and resources are in place.
- Ensure consistent execution of corporate EHS strategy, policies, and initiatives across all projects and teams.
- Lead, coach, and grow a team of EHS specialists, promoting accountability, continuous improvement, and high-performance standards.
- Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety laws, environmental regulations, client requirements, and internal policies throughout project lifecycles.
- Guide risk identification, assessment, and control measures during design, construction, commissioning, and operational phases.
- Oversee the deployment and effectiveness of safety programs, environmental plans, emergency preparedness, and incident prevention efforts.
- Conduct and support audits, inspections, incident investigations, and regulatory engagements, ensuring corrective actions are implemented promptly.
- Review and approve health, safety, and environmental plans, procedures, performance indicators, and reporting systems for key projects and proposals.
- Engage with regulatory bodies, government officials, subcontractors, and community members on EHS-related matters.
- Represent the organization in client and external meetings concerning workplace safety and environmental stewardship.
- Build and maintain a broad network of industry contacts to support best practices and collaboration.
- Track and report EHS performance metrics to senior leaders and guide data-driven improvements.
- Promote proactive safety behaviors, behavioral observation programs, and employee engagement in both unionized and non-union settings.
- Integrate EHS considerations into project timelines, commercial planning, and quality assurance frameworks.
- Support major project bids by delivering EHS strategies, resource planning, and risk evaluations.
- Foster an inclusive, respectful workplace that values diversity, equity, and professional growth.
- Maintain readiness for travel across Canada and international locations as required.
