About the Role
Lead and coordinate design activities across large-scale civil engineering and infrastructure projects, ensuring integration of technical solutions, compliance, and performance excellence.
Responsibilities
- Direct the development and execution of design strategies for major construction programs
- Manage multidisciplinary design teams across multiple project locations
- Ensure alignment of design deliverables with project timelines and client specifications
- Oversee technical quality assurance and control processes across all design phases
- Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to integrate design solutions
- Drive innovation in design methodologies and digital engineering practices
- Monitor design performance metrics and implement continuous improvement initiatives
- Lead design risk assessments and mitigation planning
- Coordinate with external consultants and design partners
- Support bid development with technical design input and resourcing plans
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards in design workflows
- Champion sustainable design principles and low-carbon solutions
- Manage stakeholder engagement related to design progress and challenges
- Oversee budget forecasting and cost control for design activities
- Mentor and develop junior design staff and team leads
- Promote collaborative working across disciplines and project functions
- Ensure adherence to industry standards and regulatory requirements
- Facilitate design reviews and gate approvals throughout project lifecycle
- Integrate digital tools such as BIM and data modeling into project delivery
- Support resolution of technical disputes and design variations
- Maintain strong client relationships through clear communication of design outcomes
- Lead post-project design evaluations and lessons learned sessions
- Ensure intellectual property and documentation standards are maintained
- Drive adoption of design for manufacture and assembly (DfMA) approaches
- Promote health and safety culture within design decision-making
