Laurel is hiring a Senior Data Scientist, Product Analytics

Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain standardized key performance indicators for product success, including activation, retention, churn prediction, feature effectiveness, and user engagement.
  • Develop and manage core tables in the analytics data warehouse to serve as the authoritative data source.
  • Lead the design of success metrics, risk controls, and decision frameworks for new product features in collaboration with product managers.
  • Conduct in-depth evaluations to assess whether launched features result in measurable improvements to user experience.
  • Construct standardized user journey funnels from onboarding through to habitual, high-engagement usage.
  • Discover early signals that correlate with long-term user retention or likelihood of churn.
  • Generate data-driven insights that inform product roadmap decisions and feature development priorities.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards that deliver actionable intelligence and trigger alerts when key behaviors shift significantly.
  • Improve data integrity by implementing validation checks, monitoring systems, and working with engineering teams to resolve data issues promptly.
  • Establish standardized practices, templates, and workflows to mature the organization’s product analytics function.
  • Collaborate with data engineering and infrastructure teams to influence the design of the analytics warehouse and metric layers.

Location

This role is hybrid with a base in the San Francisco office, requiring three days per week on-site. Exceptionally strong candidates in other U.S. locations may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Compensation

  • For San Francisco-based hires, the base salary range is $175,000 to $240,000 USD.
  • Final pay will vary based on candidate qualifications, experience, and expertise, and may fall outside the stated range.
