Common App is hiring a Senior Data Governance Analyst - U.S. Based Remote Opportunity

Common App is looking for a Senior Data Governance Analyst to play a key role in our Data Analytics & Research Division. You will be responsible for ensuring data integrity, consistency, and compliance across our data ecosystem while supporting our mission-driven work in college admissions access and equity.

What You'll Do

  • Ensure data integrity, consistency, and compliance across Common App’s data ecosystem.
  • Lead the implementation of the Enterprise Information Management program.
  • Convene a regular Data Governance Working Group with business and technology stakeholders to define and enforce data governance standards.
  • Establish information management policies, processes, and controls across Common App’s data domains in collaboration with the Vice President and Legal.
  • Identify data quality initiatives and help drive a culture of data accountability across the organization.

What We're Looking For

  • Candidates must live in the United States.
  • Willingness to travel to attend twice annual Common App Retreat.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field.
  • 5-8 years of experience in data governance, data management, and analytics.
  • Experience implementing data governance programs, including standards, policies, and data stewardship practices.
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to advancing the organization’s mission by applying data governance practices and analytic approaches that support access and equity in college admissions.
  • Effectively leads cross-functional teams to achieve governance goals, fostering collaboration and alignment across business and technology stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills to translate complex governance concepts into accessible guidance for diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to mentor and guide team members in governance best practices.
  • Applies analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and implement process improvements and solutions for operational challenges.
  • Advanced proficiency in data quality, profiling, and validation techniques.
  • High proficiency with data governance tools, data catalog platforms, and metadata management (e.g., Collibra, Alation, Informatica).
  • Fully fluent in querying relational and cloud-based data warehouses using SQL.
  • Familiarity with cloud data platforms (especially Databricks).
  • Advanced knowledge of master data management, data lineage, and regulatory compliance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).

Nice to Have

  • Master’s or doctoral degree in Information Management, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Background in regulatory or policy compliance related to data management.
  • Experience in data governance, data management, and analytics in higher education.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI for governance reporting.
  • Familiarity with higher education data definitions and architecture.
  • A passion for higher education is a plus.
