Responsibilities
- Perform title examinations and examine the chain of title for a wide range of commercial title matters/issues
- Analyze records, such as mortgages, liens, judgments, easements, vital statistics, and plat and map books, to determine ownership and legal restrictions and to verify legal description of property and completeness of records
- Resolves most issues, such as missing information, incomplete, inaccurate, or contradictory information contained in the title documentation
- Review title commitments for accuracy and make necessary revisions
- May provide underwriting interpretation within established guidelines
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- 7+ years Commercial title examination experience, previous MI experience required
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and provide timely follow up
- Excellent verbal and written communication with internal and external customers
- High School diploma or equivalent
Nice to Have
- Extensive experience with complex commercial chains of title
- Strong knowledge of state-specific law (e.g., Michigan statutes and recording practices)
- Ability to examine large acreage, multi-site, and multi-county properties
- Comfort resolving curative issues, old defects, and legal descriptions
- Experience working directly with Underwriters and Attorneys
- Mentoring or reviewing the work of other examiners
