Fluidstack is hiring a Senior Civil Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Lead civil assessments for new and converted sites, evaluating topography, drainage, utilities, soil conditions, floodplains, and environmental limitations
  • Analyze traffic studies and offsite infrastructure needs, identifying potential civil-related cost and schedule risks during site evaluation
  • Oversee geotechnical investigations, define RFP scope, evaluate drilling plans, interpret findings, and direct design responses
  • Evaluate site viability for major grading, infrastructure installation, and stormwater control measures
  • Identify critical site constraints and estimate civil-related expenses early in site selection
  • Create and maintain civil design standards, master specifications, and standardized drawings for campus-wide projects
  • Manage third-party civil consultants from concept through issued-for-construction phases, ensuring quality and compliance
  • Develop earthmoving strategies, balance cut and fill volumes, and sequence earthwork for large developments
  • Plan phased project delivery, including early work packages like bulk grading and utility installation, to shorten overall timelines
  • Coordinate routing of site utilities including water, sewer, storm drainage, and medium-voltage underground systems, with attention to offsite connections and roadway upgrades
  • Align civil design with structural, mechanical, electrical, fiber, and architectural disciplines
  • Lead permitting efforts across jurisdictions, covering land disturbance, stormwater (NPDES/SWPPP), floodplain (CLOMR/LOMR), environmental, and utility approvals
  • Engage with state and local agencies, drainage districts, and utility providers
  • Track permit timelines as part of the overall project critical path
  • Assess regulatory risks related to wetlands, 100-year flood zones, karst formations, and expansive soils, and develop mitigation approaches
  • Review contractor submissions, RFIs, and field conditions specific to civil works
  • Conduct regular site inspections to verify construction quality and regulatory compliance
  • Manage design modifications and change orders for civil components
  • Coordinate civil closeout documentation, as-built records, and approvals with local authorities

  • Minimum of 7 years of civil engineering experience, with focus on large-scale site development; data centers, industrial, logistics, or power projects preferred
  • Valid Professional Engineer (PE) license or active pursuit with licensure expected within 12 months
  • Proven experience managing external civil consultants and ensuring quality of design deliverables
  • Solid understanding of grading, earthwork, stormwater management, and utility design
  • Knowledge of NPDES, FEMA floodplain regulations (CLOMR/LOMR), and land disturbance permitting
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D; working knowledge of GIS tools
  • Willingness to travel to project sites nationwide (estimated 20–30%)

Nice to Have

  • Experience in hyperscale data center, industrial, or energy infrastructure projects
  • Familiarity with FM Global civil site requirements
  • Experience coordinating and interpreting geotechnical evaluations
  • Background working with expansive clay soils, karst geology, or high water table conditions
