What You'll Do
Take full ownership of our 'hrsearch' platform, managing the full lifecycle of our OpenSearch infrastructure—from index architecture and query pipeline design to cluster stability, performance scaling, and system upgrades. Lead technical strategy discussions on hybrid retrieval models, vector search integration, embedding selection, and personalized ranking logic, guiding the team toward robust, scalable solutions.
Partner with engineering leads and product teams to turn business needs—like dietary filters, faceted navigation, and relevance ranking—into efficient, high-performing search features. Develop across the stack, implementing document schemas, query logic, function scoring rules, and KNN-based vector search, including the integration of text embedding models via inference sidecars.
Integrate AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor and Claude Code into daily workflows to accelerate prototyping, improve debugging, and streamline documentation. Champion best practices in code quality through reviews, testing, refactoring, and knowledge sharing. Contribute to hiring by evaluating engineering candidates and helping shape our technical team’s growth.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
- 3+ years working directly with OpenSearch or Elasticsearch, including index design and query DSL
- 2+ years implementing semantic and vector search methods, including KNN and HNSW algorithms
- 3+ years using Python and its ecosystem as a primary development environment
- 2+ years focused on search relevance tuning using BM25, function scoring, and hybrid retrieval
- 2+ years diagnosing and resolving production issues in search or data-heavy systems
- Proven use of AI coding assistants in real-world development workflows
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AWS OpenSearch Service, including cluster management and access controls
- 2+ years using Django, Flask, or similar web frameworks
- Familiarity with text embedding models and inference serving tools like Hugging Face TEI or sentence-transformers
- Background in search analytics, A/B testing relevance, and cluster monitoring
- Experience building APIs with Django REST Framework
- Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform
- Strong Git workflow experience
- Degree in computer science or a related field
