Role Overview
This position is responsible for managing comprehensive accounting functions for nonprofit organizations in a fully remote environment. The ideal candidate will ensure financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and clear communication across client engagements. Reporting to the Controller, you will play a key role in month-end close processes, financial reporting, and client support.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle accounting tasks, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger maintenance
- Prepare and finalize monthly financial statements by completing balance sheet reconciliations and close workbooks
- Track restricted funds and prepare net asset roll forwards to ensure proper fund allocation
- Support grant administration, including reporting and compliance documentation
- Lead audit coordination efforts, including schedule preparation and liaison activities for single audits
- Assist in preparing IRS Form 990 and other federal, state, and local regulatory filings
- Generate specialized reports to support client insights and financial planning
- Maintain organized client records, including audit and tax documentation from prior years
- Collaborate on budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis under controller supervision
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- At least five years of hands-on accounting experience
- Strong command of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Proficiency in data management, recordkeeping, and cloud-based accounting platforms
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office and Excel; experience with QuickBooks Online and NetSuite is a plus
- Proven experience preparing for audits and compiling financial schedules
- Ability to work independently and professionally from a remote location
- Willingness to learn SAGE Intacct and other third-party software systems
- Effective communication, time management, and problem-solving abilities
- Experience thriving in a collaborative virtual team environment
Preferred
- Background managing multiple clients or complex organizational structures
- CPA license
- Direct experience in nonprofit accounting
