As a School Finance Manager, you will serve as an outsourced CFO for 5 to 8 Michigan schools, partnering closely with school leaders and governance boards to shape financial direction and operational sustainability. Your role centers on building long-term financial health through strategic planning, budget development, and forward-looking forecasts that align with each school’s mission and goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic financial leadership to a portfolio of schools, advising leadership teams on budgeting, resource allocation, and policy decisions.
- Develop comprehensive financial models and forecasts to support planning and decision-making, ensuring alignment with equity-focused priorities.
- Present financial strategies and reports at board or finance committee meetings, translating complex data into clear, actionable insights.
- Identify financial challenges proactively and collaborate with internal teams to deliver effective solutions.
- Mentor and guide School Finance Specialists and Analysts, supporting consistent and accurate financial practices across schools.
- Contribute to the evolution of finance services by participating in research, product development, and process improvements within the organization.
Qualifications
Candidates should bring significant experience in K–12 school finance in Michigan, ideally having led financial operations in public or charter schools. You must have worked at the leadership level, with proven ability to engage with school executives, interpret financial statements, and navigate accounting systems.
Strong proficiency in Excel—including advanced formulas—is essential, along with experience using Google Workspace and accounting software. You should be skilled at communicating financial concepts clearly to audiences with varying levels of financial knowledge.
Leadership experience in audit management is a plus. Most candidates will have 10 to 15 years of relevant professional or post-secondary experience.
