About the Role
The position involves designing and analyzing woodframe structures in compliance with American standards, supporting project development from concept through construction documentation.
Responsibilities
- Design woodframe structural systems for residential buildings
- Prepare detailed engineering drawings and calculations
- Ensure compliance with U.S. building codes and safety standards
- Collaborate with architects and construction teams
- Perform load analysis for gravity and lateral forces
- Review construction plans for structural integrity
- Conduct site assessments when necessary
- Support permitting and approval processes
- Evaluate existing structures for renovation projects
- Use industry software for modeling and simulation
- Produce technical reports for clients and authorities
- Coordinate with material suppliers and contractors
- Maintain documentation for all design phases
- Address structural issues during construction
- Provide guidance on best practices for wood construction
- Stay current with changes in building regulations
- Optimize designs for cost and performance
- Participate in project planning meetings
- Assist in developing construction specifications
- Ensure designs meet sustainability goals
Nice to Have
- Master’s degree in Structural Engineering
- Experience with ICC-ES evaluations
- Working knowledge of NEHRP guidelines
- History of working with design-build firms
- Experience in high-seismic regions
- Familiarity with timber framing beyond standard woodframe
- Involvement in forensic engineering projects
- Published work or presentations in structural engineering
- Active participation in engineering associations
- Experience mentoring junior engineers
