Raising The Village was looking for a Project Manager

Lead and coordinate project execution across rural districts, ensuring activities align with organizational strategy and community needs. Report directly to the Area Manager, providing regular updates and escalating critical issues when necessary.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and distribute weekly activity plans to Team Leads each Friday, ensuring clarity on deliverables and timelines. Conduct regular debriefs to assess progress, identify risks, and adapt strategies in response to field conditions. Oversee all phases of the project lifecycle—from identification through implementation and evaluation—ensuring objectives are met efficiently and sustainably.

Supervise program staff, guiding recruitment, training, and performance development. Lead on-the-ground procurement of supplies and trainers, evaluating costs and logistics for effectiveness. Design detailed work plans that sequence activities across communities and review schedules with field teams to resolve challenges promptly.

Act as the primary liaison with district and sector-level government officials, including directors, agronomists, and executive secretaries. Strengthen partnerships through joint planning, regular coordination, and capacity-building initiatives. Organize and lead training sessions for government staff on implementation standards, accountability, and monitoring practices.

Support government counterparts in supervision and field visits, promoting shared ownership of project outcomes. Collect and validate progress reports from partners and integrate findings into internal systems. Foster a collaborative culture that enables scalable and sustainable impact.

Monitor team performance, delivering ongoing coaching and conducting formal evaluations. Maintain accurate records of office operations, inventory, and financial expenditures. Prepare and submit regular reports—weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually—to management and local authorities.

Support project design improvements by contributing insights from field experience. Assist in onboarding new staff and ensure all team members receive proper orientation. Stay actively engaged in skill development related to health, agriculture, WASH, Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs), and market linkages.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Community Development, Project Planning, or a related field
  • Minimum of four years of professional experience, with at least two years focused on collaboration with district- and sector-level government institutions
  • Three or more years in a supervisory role
  • Proven track record in village-level project management, budgeting, and implementation
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Kinyarwanda
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks amid interruptions and shifting priorities
  • Valid Rwandan motorcycle license with demonstrated experience navigating remote, hilly terrain
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently—up to 80% of time
  • Physical stamina for working in high-altitude, rural environments

Preferred

A postgraduate diploma or master’s degree in Project Management or a related discipline is advantageous.

Work Environment

This is an onsite role based in Ngororero, requiring extensive field travel. The position involves regular visits to rural communities, often in challenging terrain. Candidates must be comfortable operating in fast-paced, dynamic settings and committed to equity, inclusion, and ethical practice.
