People Can Fly is hiring a Principal Technical Level Designer

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute gameplay sequences using available tools to integrate core elements like objectives, enemy placements, and events into cohesive player experiences.
  • Oversee the integration of interconnected systems, detect inefficiencies or gaps, and lead enhancements in tools, workflows, and development pipelines.
  • Address highly complex technical challenges proactively and independently.
  • Collaborate directly with engineers, designers, artists, and animators to develop critical tools, manage feature dependencies, and support unified project goals.
  • Evaluate design concepts, feature implementations, and production pipelines to uncover risks and opportunities for systemic advancement.
  • Support the development and testing of technical components during prototyping and production phases.
  • Validate new tools and features prior to team-wide rollout to confirm functionality and alignment with team needs.
  • Enforce adherence to established technical standards and performance metrics among level designers.
  • Review team-created blueprints to assess optimization needs and prevent potential bugs.
  • Develop reusable, configurable prefabs that simplify implementation for other team members.
  • Bridge creative direction and technical limitations by serving as the level design team’s technical authority, ensuring alignment with overall project budgets.
  • Support debugging efforts across the department, engage in cross-team problem-solving, and represent the team in studio-wide initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation for owned systems.
  • Keep current with evolving industry practices and emerging technical approaches.
  • Contribute to internal knowledge resources and work with other teams to ensure information remains accurate and accessible.
  • Lead or oversee dedicated Strike Teams responsible for specific technical or production objectives.
  • Support recruitment initiatives in coordination with HR and team leadership when required.
  • Occasionally assist in onboarding and integrating new team members.
