Collins Aerospace is hiring a Principal Site Reliability Engineer - Connected Aviation (Remote)

Collins Aerospace is hiring a Principal Site Reliability Engineer for its Connected Aviation unit. In this role, you will be responsible for service availability, performance, monitoring, and capacity planning for critical B2B aviation products. You will own AWS-hosted infrastructures and lead the migration of a major multi-tenant application to the cloud.

What You'll Do

  • Own one or more AWS-hosted infrastructures delivering commercial B2B products.
  • Manage, enhance, and troubleshoot AWS environments using best-in-class CI/CD patterns.
  • Develop features for continuous test and release within an agile framework.
  • Influence team members in selecting and using the right AWS tools for scaling features.
  • Drive the migration of a significant multi-tenant Connected Aviation web application from on-premise into AWS.
  • Participate in an on-call roster to support critical service incidents.

What We're Looking For

  • A degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years of prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree and minimum 5 years of experience.
  • U.S. Person status required due to access to ITAR or 600/500-series EAR controlled information or hardware.
  • Flexibility for team meetings as early as 9:00 AM Eastern Time to accommodate team members in the UK and India.
  • Software engineering background or strong coding skills in an OO language (.NET or Python advantageous) for managing infrastructure as code using AWS CDK.
  • Experience managing AWS ECS clusters and working with systems hosted in SQL databases like PostgreSQL, and RabbitMQ message brokers.
  • Experience with Bash and/or Powershell scripting.
  • Experience with system design consulting, platform management, and capacity planning for AWS & CloudFormation.
  • Experience with Docker containerization & Git.

Nice to Have

  • A dual background in both systems infrastructure and software engineering.
  • Experience with reporting and monitoring using industry-standard tools and techniques.
  • Experience with Azure Dev Ops and Pulumi.
  • Experience with SCRUM (and Scaled Agile Framework as a bonus).
  • A desire to automate as much as possible and proficiency with automation tools.
  • Understanding of network segmentation, routing, and VPNs.
  • Security knowledge to work with cyber teams and understand their recommendations.
  • Strong communication skills to document and articulate work clearly to team members and stakeholders.

Team & Environment

You will be part of the Messaging and Flight Ops Engineering team within the Connected Aviation strategic unit at Collins Aerospace, working collaboratively with colleagues across the world on real-world aviation solutions.
