About the Role
This role involves leading multidisciplinary research teams to design and optimize small molecule therapeutics using advanced structural and medicinal chemistry techniques, with a focus on accelerating drug discovery programs toward clinical development.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and synthesis of novel small molecule compounds for drug discovery programs
- Apply structural biology insights to guide rational drug design
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including biology, pharmacology, and DMPK
- Optimize compounds for potency, selectivity, and pharmacokinetic properties
- Interpret 3D protein-ligand structures to inform chemistry strategies
- Drive structure-activity relationship (SAR) analysis across multiple projects
- Propose and execute innovative synthetic routes for complex molecules
- Mentor junior chemists and contribute to team development
- Present project updates and strategies to senior leadership
- Integrate data from multiple sources to guide project direction
- Support the advancement of candidates into preclinical and clinical stages
- Maintain expertise in modern synthetic methodologies and instrumentation
- Contribute to intellectual property through invention disclosures and patent applications
- Evaluate emerging technologies and methods for application in discovery workflows
- Ensure adherence to safety and compliance standards in laboratory operations
- Participate in project planning and timeline management
- Identify and mitigate scientific risks in discovery pipelines
- Utilize computational chemistry tools in conjunction with experimental data
- Foster collaboration between structural biology and medicinal chemistry groups
- Stay current with scientific literature and industry advancements
