Lead and professionalize global payroll operations for a fully remote organization with team members in over 35 countries. As the Payroll Operations Manager, you will oversee the complete payroll lifecycle, ensuring timely, accurate, and audit-ready disbursements across diverse worker types, currencies, and platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end payroll processing across bi-monthly and monthly cycles, including employee and contractor payments
- Coordinate payroll submissions using platforms such as Wise, Payoneer, Deel, and Gusto, ensuring correct data formatting and compliance
- Develop and maintain structured payroll calendars with clear deadlines and stakeholder responsibilities
- Reconcile payments post-disbursement and verify funding accuracy across all financial systems
- Design validation checkpoints to catch errors and prevent missed inputs before processing
- Strengthen controls between HR and Finance for onboarding, offboarding, salary changes, bonuses, commissions, and reimbursements
- Improve data consistency between BambooHR and payroll models
- Create, maintain, and document standardized operating procedures to reduce risk and ensure consistency
- Handle payroll for multiple worker classifications across global jurisdictions
- Verify exchange rates and ensure accurate currency conversions
- Own the full cycle of commission and bonus calculations, validating inputs with Sales and department leads
- Produce reconciliation reports, accrual schedules, and audit-ready documentation
- Align payroll outputs with department budgets and support post-payroll financial reporting
- Investigate discrepancies and resolve variances efficiently
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of payroll experience, with proven success managing payroll for 100+ people
- Direct experience with multi-country, multi-currency environments and international compliance
- Background in manual or semi-automated payroll systems with strong reconciliation and internal control practices
- Advanced skills in Google Sheets or Excel for modeling and data management
- Strong communication abilities across cross-functional teams
- Demonstrated attention to detail, operational discipline, and process improvement mindset
- Experience working in remote, distributed teams
Preferred Background
- Experience scaling payroll in fast-growing organizations
- Exposure to payroll system implementations
- Background in multi-entity or post-acquisition environments
- Industry experience in SaaS or technology
