Recursion is hiring a Patent Counsel - Chemistry

Responsibilities

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications in the chemistry field
  • Conduct patentability searches and analyses
  • Provide legal opinions on patentability and infringement
  • Manage the patent portfolio, including maintenance and enforcement
  • Collaborate with research and development teams to identify patentable inventions
  • Negotiate and draft licensing agreements and other intellectual property-related contracts
  • Monitor and analyze patent landscapes and competitive activities
  • Prepare and deliver training sessions on intellectual property topics
  • Assist in the development and implementation of intellectual property strategies
  • Work with external counsel and patent agents as needed
  • Ensure compliance with patent laws and regulations
  • Prepare and review patent-related documents and correspondence
  • Conduct due diligence on intellectual property matters for mergers and acquisitions
  • Provide support in litigation and dispute resolution related to patents
  • Stay up-to-date with developments in patent law and chemistry
  • Advise on the protection of trade secrets and other intellectual property rights
  • Coordinate with international counsel on global patent filings and strategies
  • Assist in the development of patent prosecution strategies and budgets
  • Review and analyze patent applications and issued patents
  • Provide guidance on the patentability of new technologies and inventions
  • Support the organization's efforts to commercialize its intellectual property
  • Participate in the development of intellectual property policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure alignment with the organization's goals

What You'll Need

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
  • Admission to at least one U.S. state bar
  • Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
  • Strong background in chemistry, with a PhD preferred
  • Proven experience in patent prosecution, preferably in the chemistry field
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience with patent portfolio management
  • Familiarity with patent litigation and dispute resolution
  • Knowledge of intellectual property laws and regulations
  • Experience with licensing and other intellectual property-related agreements
