Responsibilities
- Develop and execute comprehensive global IP strategies to build, sustain, and enhance the value of patent portfolios throughout all phases of research, development, and commercialization
- Manage international patent prosecution activities, including U.S., PCT, and foreign filings, in collaboration with external legal partners and agents; supervise IDS submissions, cross-references, and compliance with formal obligations
- Serve as a key IP advisor to research teams and senior leadership, providing guidance on invention capture, patent life-cycle planning, competitive intelligence, risk analysis, and business-aligned opportunities
- Evaluate and address potential IP risks, delivering strategic insights to legal, IP, and business decision-makers
- Support business transactions such as partnerships, in-licensing, and collaborations through due diligence and the preparation or review of IP-related agreements
- Provide input on licensing approaches and potential IP-related disputes or litigation, working with internal teams and outside counsel
- Oversee IP administrative functions, ensuring accurate, complete, and audit-ready records across docketing systems, regulatory disclosures, and patent databases
- Establish and maintain scalable IP systems and processes tailored to the organization's size and operational needs
- Ensure all patent-related communications and deadlines are met, coordinating with the USPTO, international patent offices, and legal representatives to maintain compliance and timely fee payments
- Prepare patent applications, including Markush structures and claims, for inventions generated by company personnel
- Supervise relationships with external legal firms to ensure high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective service delivery
- Analyze third-party patents and competitive IP landscapes to guide strategic decisions, identify freedom-to-operate pathways, and uncover growth potential
- Work collaboratively with Legal, Finance, Research, Compliance, Commercial, and Business Development teams to support audits, reporting, transactions, and corporate goals
