About the Role

The position supports cultural and environmental compliance by conducting paleontological fieldwork, monitoring excavation sites, and preparing technical reports when triggered by project needs.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field surveys to locate and assess fossil-bearing strata
  • Perform paleontological monitoring during ground-disturbing activities
  • Document fossil discoveries using field notes, photographs, and maps
  • Recover and preserve fossil specimens according to scientific standards
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local paleontological regulations
  • Prepare technical reports summarizing field findings and recommendations
  • Collaborate with project managers and regulatory agencies on fossil-related issues
  • Assist in developing paleontological resource management plans
  • Respond promptly to project calls for on-site evaluations
  • Transport field equipment and supplies to remote locations
  • Work in diverse outdoor environments under variable weather conditions
  • Maintain accurate records of specimen collections and field activities
  • Coordinate with laboratory staff for fossil curation and analysis
  • Provide guidance on avoiding impacts to significant fossil resources
  • Support environmental documentation efforts with paleontological input

Compensation

Hourly rate commensurate with experience; paid per assignment

Work Arrangement

On-call, as needed; no guaranteed hours
