As a Principal Operations Engineer focused on Machine Safety, you will play a key role in maintaining the integrity and compliance of industrial equipment across the site. Your primary responsibility will be leading PUWER assessments for a broad range of machinery, including workshop tools, mobile plant, lifting equipment, automated systems, and custom-built devices. You will ensure all equipment meets current safety legislation and engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and document comprehensive PUWER evaluations across diverse equipment types, ensuring accurate records and clear reporting
- Advise department managers on technical compliance, risk mitigation, and safe operating practices
- Interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and regulatory requirements to support sound safety decisions
- Stay current with evolving health and safety legislation, particularly the Machinery Directive and associated standards
- Support a culture of continuous improvement in operational safety and regulatory adherence
Qualifications and Experience
You should have a solid background in mechanical or electrical engineering roles with hands-on experience in safety compliance. Previous work conducting PUWER assessments is essential, along with the ability to interpret technical documentation. Certification such as NEBOSH is highly valued, as is familiarity with engineering standards and a background in equipment maintenance.
Work Environment
