Role Summary
This position serves as a scientific bridge between medical professionals and Medical Affairs, focusing on the rheumatology therapeutic area. The Medical Science Liaison fosters peer-level dialogue with healthcare providers, academic institutions, and professional societies across the Northeast region, supporting the advancement of knowledge around rare disease treatments.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct scientific exchanges with physicians, researchers, and key opinion leaders to discuss disease states, emerging research, and clinical data
- Collect and share relevant medical insights from the field, including perspectives on treatment trends and competitive developments
- Support clinical trial initiatives by identifying qualified investigative sites and assisting with study enrollment efforts
- Deliver scientific presentations and training to internal teams and external stakeholders on preclinical and clinical evidence
- Represent the organization at medical conferences and scientific meetings to disseminate data and monitor the professional landscape
- Act as a primary field contact for medical inquiries, ensuring accurate and compliant communication of scientific information
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align medical strategy with patient and clinical needs
- Maintain up-to-date expertise in rheumatology, nephrology, and related rare disease research
Qualifications and Requirements
Candidates must possess advanced scientific training and a proven ability to engage in complex clinical discussions. The role demands strong interpersonal skills, independent judgment, and adherence to regulatory standards.
- Advanced degree in a life science or healthcare discipline required
- Experience in rare diseases or rheumatology preferred
- Ability to travel extensively (approximately 70% of time) throughout the Northeast region
- Residency within the assigned territory: Long Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, or Vermont
- Demonstrated success in building scientific networks and facilitating research collaborations
- Commitment to ethical practices and scientific integrity
Work Environment
This is a remote-based role with significant field engagement. The position requires frequent travel across the Northeast, with flexibility to attend meetings, conferences, and site visits as needed. The MSL will operate independently while remaining closely connected to the Medical Affairs team.
