Engage Squared is hiring a Lead Developer (Software Engineer)

About the Role

Lead Developer (Software Engineer)

Role Overview

This position is for a hands-on technical leader who will drive the design and implementation of full-stack applications using Microsoft technologies across the Asia Pacific region. You'll serve as the technical anchor for client engagements, working directly with stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable solutions built on the Azure platform. The role involves close collaboration with consultants, project managers, and development teams in Australia, New Zealand, and Japan, ensuring high-quality delivery from inception to deployment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture and development of end-to-end software solutions, focusing on clean, maintainable code and sound system design
  • Collaborate with consultants and client teams to define requirements, manage expectations, and guide technical direction
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences
  • Identify and resolve project blockers proactively, adapting quickly to new or unfamiliar codebases
  • Mentor developers and promote best practices in coding, testing, and deployment
  • Balance technical excellence with project constraints, including budget, timeline, and scope
  • Advise clients against poor architectural choices and promote sustainable development patterns

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Technical Lead or hands-on Architect in web application development
  • Minimum of 6 years of development experience in the Microsoft ecosystem, preferably in agency or product environments
  • Strong written and spoken English with the ability to communicate effectively across teams and time zones
  • Experience mentoring developers or providing technical guidance to teams
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a distributed environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field

Technical Stack

We work with modern Microsoft technologies and full-stack web development tools. Our stack includes:

  • Backend: .NET Core, .NET 5–10, C# with latest language features
  • Frontend: React or Angular using TypeScript
  • Databases: SQL Server, Postgres, CosmosDB, MongoDB, and other relational and document databases
  • APIs & Systems: RESTful services, distributed systems with ASP.NET Core
  • Practices: SOLID principles, OOP, clean code, Git, CI/CD, Azure DevOps pipelines
  • Cloud: Azure solution design and deployment
  • Tools: AI-assisted development tools used as accelerators, not crutches

Work Environment

This role supports flexible and remote work. Team members are based in Melbourne, Bendigo, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Auckland, Wellington, Tokyo, and Bali. We operate as a globally distributed team with a strong remote-first culture.

Company Culture

We foster a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative environment. Our team values continuous learning, open communication, and delivering measurable results for clients. We invest in professional growth and encourage team members to shape the direction of both projects and internal practices.

Equal Opportunity

We believe diverse perspectives strengthen our work. If you don’t meet every requirement but feel your skills and mindset align with this role, we encourage you to apply. We assess candidates on aptitude, problem-solving ability, and passion, not just credentials. Reasonable adjustments are available upon request.
