About the Role
This role involves leading sterile compounding operations, managing pharmacy staff, and ensuring all preparations meet regulatory and quality standards. The pharmacist ensures safe, accurate, and compliant medication compounding within a hybrid work environment.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily sterile compounding procedures in compliance with USP <797> and <800> standards
- Supervise pharmacy technicians and support staff involved in sterile preparation
- Ensure accurate formulation, labeling, and packaging of sterile products
- Conduct regular quality assurance checks on compounding workflows
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and internal safety regulations
- Lead staff training on aseptic technique and contamination control
- Review batch records and compounding documentation for accuracy
- Manage inventory of sterile ingredients, supplies, and equipment
- Troubleshoot deviations in compounding processes and implement corrective actions
- Collaborate with quality assurance to address audit findings
- Support validation of new compounding procedures and equipment
- Ensure proper storage and handling of hazardous drugs
- Participate in facility environmental monitoring programs
- Monitor expiration dates and conduct routine product recalls if needed
- Serve as a resource for clinical and operational questions related to sterile compounding
- Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and safety
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes in pharmacy practice
- Oversee documentation in pharmacy information systems
- Ensure proper disposal of biohazardous and pharmaceutical waste
- Support onboarding and competency assessments for new team members
- Respond to internal and external inquiries about sterile compounding practices
- Promote a culture of accountability and continuous learning
- Conduct performance reviews for direct reports
- Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures across shifts
- Assist in preparing for regulatory inspections
