Lead Android Engineer (EMEA Remote)
Role Overview
We're looking for a seasoned Android engineer to lead the development of mobile applications that interact with a decentralized cloud infrastructure. You'll be responsible for shaping the architecture, performance, and security of Android apps that operate in a distributed, energy-efficient environment. This is a fully remote position within the EMEA timezone, offering deep technical challenges and direct influence on a scalable, next-generation platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement robust Android applications using Kotlin and modern development patterns
- Architect maintainable, high-performance mobile solutions with a focus on scalability and efficiency
- Develop responsive, intuitive user interfaces following current Android design standards
- Integrate mobile clients with backend and distributed systems through RESTful APIs
- Ensure reliable data synchronization, offline functionality, and network resilience
- Optimize application performance, memory footprint, and battery consumption
- Enforce code quality through testing, documentation, and peer review
- Lead the full development lifecycle, from concept to deployment on the Play Store
- Collaborate closely with backend and infrastructure teams for seamless integration
- Implement secure data handling and mobile security practices
- Guide team members through code reviews and technical mentorship
- Advance engineering standards in architecture, CI/CD, and release workflows
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as a Senior or Lead Android Engineer
- Proficiency in Kotlin and the Android SDK
- Proven experience with modern Android architectures such as MVVM and Clean Architecture
- Strong grasp of performance optimization and Android lifecycle management
- Hands-on experience with RESTful API integration and asynchronous programming using Coroutines and Flow
- Familiarity with local data persistence using Room and SQLite
- Experience with testing frameworks and debugging tools
- Background working in Agile/Scrum environments
- Strong communication skills and the ability to shape technical decisions
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Jetpack Compose for declarative UI development
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and mobile release management
- Background in mobile security, including encryption, secure storage, and authentication
- Understanding of distributed systems or cloud infrastructure
- Experience in deep-tech, infrastructure, or performance-sensitive domains
- Familiarity with observability, logging, and mobile analytics tools
