United Therapeutics is hiring an Intern - Transgene Analytics

Vhr_unither is seeking an enthusiastic intern to join the Functional Genomics and Bioinformatics research team. You will support the xenotransplantation program using DNA and RNA sequencing technologies. This internship offers hands-on experience with genomics and transcriptomics.

What You'll Do

  • Assist with sample preparation for RNA-Seq experiments, including RNA extraction and quality control.
  • Help prepare libraries for sequencing using standard protocols.
  • Perform DNA and RNA sequencing using Oxford Nanopore’s long read technologies.
  • Contribute to processing and analysis of DNA and RNA-Seq data, including quality assessment, alignment, and gene expression analysis.
  • Prepare Next Gen sequencing-ready libraries using commercially available kits.
  • Assist in validating and interpreting DNA or RNA-Seq results using bioinformatics tools like EPI2ME or custom programming languages.
  • Maintain accurate lab records and document all experimental protocols and data.
  • Assist with other molecular biology techniques as needed, such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, and western blotting.

What We're Looking For

  • Must be at least a rising sophomore with a major in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of molecular biology techniques and laboratory safety protocols.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with RNA-Seq technologies and next-generation sequencing (NGS).
  • Ability to work with bioinformatics outputs at a conceptual level and interpret results with guidance.
  • Experience with bioinformatics tools, programming (e.g., R, Python), or data analysis software.
  • Previous lab experience in an academic or industry environment.
