Responsibilities
- Oversee all areas of hotel operations, including food and beverage, accounting, front office, entertainment, and contracted services, managing daily performance, revenue, and cost control.
- Maintain clear and consistent communication between the hotel, deck, and engine departments, as well as within the hotel team.
- Inform the ship’s Master immediately of any incident that could impact navigation, passenger safety, or service quality.
- Collaborate closely with department leaders, crew members, and charter staff to ensure proper staffing and prevent miscommunication.
- Manage crew-related matters by facilitating strong communication between the vessel and corporate headquarters.
- Promote open feedback by relaying constructive input, praise, and suggestions from crew and officers to management.
- Protect operational standards by monitoring adherence to company policies and reporting any deviations.
- Ensure all hotel staff follow health and hygiene protocols in compliance with public health regulations such as USPH, Ship San, Anvisa, and port authorities.
- Conduct routine inspections of food and beverage areas in coordination with the Staff Captain.
- Maintain safe working conditions and practices within the hotel department and address any safety-related concerns.
- Report the condition of hotel equipment to the technical team, highlighting maintenance needs that affect safety, hygiene, or guest experience.
- Be highly visible and engage regularly with guests and crew in both formal and informal settings.
- Uphold discipline and welfare standards for all hotel department personnel, including concessionaire staff.
- Ensure department officers understand and follow expected conduct in guest-accessible areas.
- Guide direct reports and keep all team members informed of current ship and company updates.
- Plan and organize hotel operations for upcoming cruises, confirming arrangements with corporate and department leaders.
- Consult with the Captain and senior officers on onboard activities and operational matters.
- Coordinate vacation scheduling for the hotel team in partnership with the Chief Purser.
- Ensure teams are properly staffed and resourced to meet operational demands.
- Regularly assess staffing levels and organizational structure, proposing improvements to optimize efficiency and reduce expenses.
- Conduct performance evaluations and approve those submitted by department heads.
- Assign and manage onboard and port-based duties as needed.
- Review guest feedback daily with department heads and determine corrective actions for unresolved issues.
- Monitor and resolve guest concerns, comments, and suggestions, providing updates to corporate leadership.
- Ensure compliance with Maritime Labor Convention requirements regarding crew working hours.
