Skylight is hiring a Head of People Operations

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the entire employee journey, from workforce planning to onboarding and beyond.
  • Lead and develop the recruiting function by supervising the Head of Recruiting and expanding talent capabilities.
  • Assess current and future staffing needs and maintain a strategic pipeline of qualified candidates.
  • Lead and refine the onboarding experience for new hires across the organization.
  • Ensure adherence to labor laws and manage employee relations, including sensitive or legal issues.
  • Conduct market research on compensation and benefits and collaborate on payroll and related HR functions.
  • Manage and enhance the organization's HRIS platform, currently Rippling.
  • Develop and maintain organizational charts and clearly define roles and responsibilities.
  • Oversee the offboarding process to ensure compliance and positive exit experiences.
  • Lead company-wide engagement initiatives that connect across departments and teams.
  • Administer the performance management system, including goal setting, evaluations, promotions, and feedback.
  • Support the creation and evolution of a framework for professional growth and role progression.
  • Collaborate with high-potential employees and their managers on career development paths.
  • Plan and manage training programs for individuals and teams, both internally and through external providers.
  • Design culture-building initiatives that boost engagement and retention during periods of growth.
  • Develop and execute succession planning strategies for key roles.
  • Work closely with business leaders and executives to align people strategy with business goals.
  • Establish equitable and inclusive HR practices that minimize bias and expand access to diverse talent.
  • Use data and analytics to continuously improve people operations and talent outcomes.
  • Stay current with emerging trends and best practices in people operations and drive their adoption.

Requirements

  • Proven leadership experience in people operations or a similar function.
  • Experience scaling HR infrastructure in a rapidly growing company.
  • Track record of cultivating high-performing, mission-oriented cultures where employees feel valued and empowered.
  • Strong judgment in balancing transparency with confidentiality and risk management.
  • Experience recruiting professionals in design and technology fields, including product, engineering, and research roles.
  • Background working effectively with distributed or remote teams.
  • Knowledge of labor laws and experience ensuring compliance.
  • Ability to operate strategically while managing day-to-day execution.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, motivational, and relationship-building abilities.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and data interpretation capabilities.
  • Proficiency with HRIS, ATS, and performance management tools.
  • Commitment to improving public services and societal outcomes.
  • Alignment with core organizational values in mindset and approach.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for work purposes.
