Fixa is looking for a Head of Engineering to be the technical and process leader for our team of ~10 talented engineers. You will shape how the company builds, ships, and scales its core products, with a focus on high-performance teams, clean systems, and setting the technical pace. We are a mission-driven, fully remote, African-founded company focused on fixing the broken funding system for African SMEs.
What You'll Do
- Guide a team of engineers to ship high-quality software quickly and consistently.
- Establish lightweight but effective workflows for planning, coordination, code quality, releases, and reviews.
- Set technical direction and lead architectural discussions across the stack.
- Continuously improve systems for performance, reliability, scalability, and simplicity.
- Write high-quality TypeScript and contribute to the full-stack codebase when needed.
- Work closely with AI and data teams to ensure robust integration of AI capabilities into the platform.
- Mentor engineers and help hire great people as the company scales.
What We're Looking For
- Deep experience in full-stack engineering, especially with Node.js, TypeScript, Python, and PostgreSQL.
- Led engineering teams of 5+ people before or played a senior role in teams with high velocity and high standards.
- Strong instincts for balancing speed and quality, and know how to set up processes that don’t get in the way.
- Have worked remotely and managed distributed teams.
- Excited by systems thinking, and constantly seek to make things work better—technically and operationally.
- Passion for working with mission-driven teams solving real-world challenges with technology.
- Experience building team culture.
- Based in Africa.
