Hakka-Taiwan Interpreter – Remote Position

Deliver precise, real-time language interpretation over the phone between Hakka-Taiwan and English speakers in critical settings including medical care, law enforcement, and emergency response. Working entirely from home, you will support individuals with limited English proficiency by ensuring clear, accurate, and culturally appropriate communication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Answer incoming interpretation requests promptly and conduct sessions with professionalism and empathy.
  • Accurately convey meaning and intent between languages without adding, omitting, or altering content.
  • Use clear articulation, proper grammar, and respectful tone in both languages.
  • Remain neutral and objective, even during emotionally charged or urgent calls, including 911 emergencies.
  • Adhere to industry-specific terminology and protocols in fields such as healthcare, insurance, finance, and legal services.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and follow client guidelines when interacting with limited English speakers.
  • Stay focused during extended, high-volume, or complex calls while meeting service standards.

Qualifications

Applicants must be fluent in both Hakka-Taiwan and English, with strong awareness of cultural nuances and regional variations. You must be able to interpret sensitive topics—such as medical diagnoses, end-of-life care, or gender identity—with discretion and composure.

  • Fluency in speaking, listening, and understanding both languages.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least 18 years of age and legally authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future visa sponsorship.
  • Ability to work in a distraction-free, quiet environment with reliable high-speed internet (minimum 5 Mbps download, 3 Mbps upload).
  • Access to a dedicated personal device (computer, tablet, or smartphone) compatible with supported operating systems: Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, iPadOS, Android, or iOS.
  • Ability to operate company software, type efficiently, and remain seated at a workstation for extended periods.
  • Capable of lifting up to 26 pounds; may be exposed to typical office noise levels from equipment.
  • Post-offer background check or drug screening may be required based on location.

Preferred Background

  • Experience or education in language services, translation, teaching, or interpretation.
  • Ability to read and write in both languages is advantageous.

Compensation & Technology

Compensation ranges from $2.50 to $2.55 per minute, varying by time of day and interpretation level. You will use LanguageLine Solutions’ proprietary platforms on compatible devices. The company maintains certified ASTM and ISO standards for service and workplace practices.
