As a Founding Staff Software Engineer, you will be instrumental in defining the architecture and execution of a high-impact AI platform. Your work will directly influence the scalability, reliability, and performance of a system designed to turn intricate processes into rapid, data-driven outcomes. You'll lead the development of core features across the entire technology stack, from frontend interfaces to backend services and infrastructure, ensuring seamless integration with advanced AI components.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish engineering best practices and technical direction as a founding member of the team
- Design and deliver robust, scalable features that directly impact user workflows and decision speed
- Collaborate with AI researchers and product designers to align technical implementation with user needs
- Develop across web applications, containerized services, and cloud infrastructure with a focus on maintainability
- Stay current with emerging technologies and mentor peers to elevate collective engineering standards
What We’re Looking For
You bring at least eight years of hands-on engineering experience, ideally in environments where rapid iteration and system growth are the norm. You thrive when tackling ambiguous problems and can independently drive solutions from concept to deployment. Your code is not only functional but built to last—correct, resilient, and easy to extend.
Strong communication skills are essential, as you’ll work closely with cross-functional partners. You’re comfortable explaining technical trade-offs and gathering input to refine system design. While self-sufficient, you actively contribute to a culture of shared learning and continuous improvement.
Preferred Background
- Experience optimizing high-level systems for low-level performance
- Familiarity with functional programming paradigms
- Direct experience working with NLP, ML models, or inference pipelines, including awareness of their practical constraints
Technology Environment
The platform leverages a blend of symbolic and neural AI techniques, including neurosymbolic reasoning, multimodal search, statistical and symbolic parsing, graph-based data processing with RedisGraph, and integration with diffusion models and object detection systems. You’ll work within an inference engine architecture that demands precision, efficiency, and deep technical understanding.
Work Environment
This role operates on a hybrid model, with three days per week expected in the San Francisco office (Jackson Square). The team values face-to-face interaction for creativity and collaboration. After one year, there is an option to transition to fully remote work, provided your schedule remains aligned with Pacific Time. Relocation support is available for qualified candidates.
Company Values
We are committed to building accessible, powerful software for a global audience. Our team reflects the diversity of the users we serve, and we prioritize inclusive hiring practices. We believe the best technical outcomes emerge from close-knit, collaborative teams working together in person. If you’re passionate about building meaningful technology and shaping the foundation of a growing platform, this role offers a unique opportunity to leave a lasting technical legacy.
