Responsibilities
- Enroll fully in a TAFE-accredited Certificate III program for Electrical Fitting Work
- Spend four days each week gaining hands-on experience and one day in formal TAFE training
- Work alongside experienced technicians to build real-world field expertise
- Develop technical proficiency, customer interaction, and collaboration abilities in a professional setting
- Advance toward a permanent position in detection services after finishing the four-year apprenticeship
- Attend weekly TAFE classes and fulfill all academic and practical course obligations
- Travel to urban, rural, and remote client locations, including stays away from home when necessary
- Help diagnose, maintain, and repair sophisticated detection systems
- Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance according to service agreements
- Support corrective maintenance and respond to equipment faults
- Test electrical systems and circuits using multimeters, computers, and built-in software tools
- Identify mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues in low-voltage systems (24 volts or under)
- Replace mechanical components like belts, rollers, motors, and generators, using lifting equipment as needed
- Assist with installing new systems in coordination with internal teams and outside partners
- Complete all required service logs, reports, and regulatory documentation
- Take part in technical, safety, and compliance training delivered both online and in person
- Keep workspaces clean, safe, and properly organized
- Assist with warehouse duties and tracking of spare parts inventory
- Attend team meetings, safety huddles, and equipment calibration checks
- Operate with partial independence starting in the second year of the program
- Join the on-call support rotation, including some after-hours duties beginning in the second year
