ALSO is hiring an Embedded Validation & Tools Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Develop and carry out detailed validation strategies for over-the-air updates across various device types and software releases, including full OS images, firmware, bootloader, and differential updates.
  • Construct and maintain automated test environments using physical and virtual devices to support regression, integration, and stress testing of update workflows.
  • Automate the full lifecycle of over-the-air update pipelines, from artifact signing and staging to deployment and post-update checks, using scripting languages and continuous integration systems.
  • Verify core update components such as bootloaders, update agents, package formats, A/B partitioning, rollback procedures, and recovery modes.
  • Evaluate system resilience during updates under challenging conditions like unstable networks, high latency, power loss, low battery, limited storage, and corrupted update packages.
  • Assess security features including code signing, secure communication via TLS, secure boot processes, cryptographic key handling, and potential attack vectors introduced by update mechanisms.
  • Establish performance metrics such as success rates, rollback frequency, recovery time, and update duration; integrate monitoring into devices and cloud systems to assess deployment health and support release decisions.
  • Investigate failed updates, replicate real-world issues, and collaborate with firmware and backend teams to implement corrective actions.
  • Operate and maintain lab equipment including JTAG interfaces, serial consoles, network simulators, power controls, and diagnostic tools like Wireshark and logic analyzers.
  • Support continuous improvement of update processes by refining staging approaches, canary deployments, rollback policies, risk evaluation frameworks, and operational runbooks.
